Welcome to Amanda’s Book Pick of the week!

Amanda's Book Pick of the Week

This week’s book is called Flaptastic First Words

Flaptastic First Words Cover
Older babies adore vocabulary books! They are a fantastic way for babies to learn about the world around them and to learn language skills.

Flaptastic First Words
The cover of this book has a foam two-dimensional apple which older babies will love to touch, making this book an interactive experience right from the start.

This book is no ordinary vocabulary book! Due to its “flaptastic” nature, this book can easily become an interactive experience for little hands and eyes. The words are in an simple font and are very legible. I love how the objects are real images.

Amanda Signature

I am the Social Media and Community Manager here at MommiesFirst and I am a Mom of two young (ish) children, an Aunt to a wee one and lover of ALL babies! Did you know that I was also a Kindergarten teacher? My favourite time of the day in my classroom was story time!

Each week, I will be sharing a new book from DK Canada. I have a love for baby and children’s books. I love to read them as they make me smile and I love even more to share them with a baby or a child because if you watch carefully, reading a book with a little one truly lights up their little face.

Welcome to Amanda’s Book Pick of the week!
.
This week’s book is called noisy peekaboo! Roar! Roar!.

This book includes 5 lift-the-flap sounds throughout the book. The book includes pictures or real babies and real life items in order to provide baby with a real experience and to encourage vocabulary building skills. I like the repetition throughout the book and the game of peekaboo keeps the baby involved in the book, while they look for various animals. Babies are also provided with the opportunity to learn 5 animal sounds throughout this adorable book.
Like all DK Canada Board Books, this book is well constructed, including the “lift-the-flap” sections. The flaps provide baby with an opportunity to practice their fine motor skills while they play peekaboo looking for specific objects.

Welcome to Amanda’s Book Pick of the week!
.
This week’s book is called my first Words Let’s Get talking!
The book stands out due to its bright colours and real images.  It is a perfect book to introduce your little one to a larger vocabulary in a fun way.  Words are organized by various categories that toddlers and older babies can relate to like clothing, playtime and food.

I particularly love the sturdiness of this book as well as the tabs along the top and sides that allow for easy page turning.

This book can be used in a traditional manner by pointing to each picture or image and saying its name OR you can make it into a fun hide and seek game to play with your little one.  You can ask your baby to find objects with specific characteristics (e.g. “Point to something blue.” or “Where is something BIG?”).

Welcome to Amanda’s Book Pick of the week!
.
This week’s book is called Bedtime peekaboo!
“Babies love playing peek-a-boo from about six months onward and once they latch on to this simple game, they can’t get enough of it! Dk’s Peekaboo books make the most of this fun interactive activity with flaps that open to reveal appealing babies and toys.”
This sweet, little book provides babies with a tactile experience including sparkly foil, and soft fabrics.  It has thick, large flaps that make page turning and flipping easy for little hands.  The bright colours and shiny features give this book additional visual appeal and make it very attractive to grab a little one’s attention.  This book includes very simple text which is perfect for babies aged 1-18 months.  I like the descriptive words that are added into the book that will allow for older babies to increase their vocabulary.
I love the layout of this book, with the large flaps and the solid construction!
Babies are always attracted to other babies.  When reading this book, your little one will feel like they are playing peekaboo with real babies who are featured in the photos and real life images.  As a baby reads this book over and over again (and I’m sure they will as it will become a favourite), their memory and communication skills will develop.

This week’s book is called Baby Bathtime.
“From fluffy towels to rubber ducks, Baby: Bathtime! is full of objects that babies play with in the bath.”
This is an adorable book featuring bright and colourful images of bathtime related items.  I love the size of the book as it is easy for little ones to hold and to flip the pages.  The added colourful tabs on this small board book make page turning and opening the flaps so easy for little hands.

This book is a terrific introduction to bathtime vocabulary.  It would definitely make an excellent addition to a little one’s bedtime routine.  Having a story before bath might not be a bad idea, because often babies are relaxed and hopefully sleepy when their bath is finished, sometimes it is too late for a bedtime story.
