In 1995 I opened bean sprout in Toronto as a resale store for children’s clothing. It specialized in higher end labels and I was extremely particular with the quality and condition of the clothes so it soon became a leader in the resale industry. To meet the growing needs of my clientele and to offer an extensive selection of brands I began selling only new items at bean sprout in 2006. After 16 wonderful years, I closed the bricks and mortar store and launched beansprout.ca as an on-line shop in 2012. Bean sprout was voted the best kid’s clothing store in Toronto was featured on The Mom Show and was ranked by Toronto Life Magazine as one of Toronto’s top 200 stores. I’m proud to continue to offer exciting brands and exemplary customer service through beansprout.ca.

What are some exciting new developments for Bean Sprout?

We are continuing to develop the website to include exciting services such as personal shopping, exclusive offers for our subscribers and shipping options such as Pick-up. Exciting brands this spring include Berlingot, Zutano, Claesen’s and Me Too. We support local fundraising initiatives by offering donations upon request, and are always seeking styles from independent Canadian designers to be featured on beansprout.ca.

Any momfession you can share with our moms? I have one child, a 24 year old son, so I must confess that I get my “girly” fix when I purchase pretty girl clothes for the store. My suppliers get a giggle out me as my adrenaline actually rises when I find that stunning dress!

What’s the newest baby fashion trend? Watch for colourful prints and pretty dresses for girls. Leggings continue to be a great addition to any dress, tunic or top. Fun graphics on tees and bright long shorts are hot this spring for boys.

Any items you recommend for moms (and their babies) this winter? I find dressing children in fun, colourful clothing brightens up our long winters. It simply makes everyone feel better. Me Too and Zutano are known for bright, colourful, fun clothing.

The 2 biggest pieces of wisdom you would share with moms:

#1:Try not to say “no” right away to your child. If you say, “I’ll think about it” or “I’ll let you know in a minute” it gives you the time to really think about the request. Most importantly you don’t look like you’re going back on your word or “giving in” if you say no and then yes.

#2: As your children grow into their teen years, keep the dialog open, even when they say they don’t want to talk about stuff…I believe they do. Show unconditional love during these years.

Please fill in the blanks.

When they are older, I want my kid(s) to most remember me as an understanding and supportive mom.

When parents find out what I do, they often say: “that must be a fun profession”. It is.  Many people ask me for advice on fashion trends, what my favourite brands are and how I got into the business.

In my free time, I love to play golf.

I’m dreaming of good health for loved ones. To celebrate our brand partnership and to help tackle some of the winter blues and keep baby warm, we are thrilled to announce a bean sprout – MommiesFirst giveaway.  Join the Bean Sprout mailing list and register below to win this beautiful outfit from Bean Sprout.
