Can you tell us a bit about the My True Nature story?

I have two very fair, strawberry blond children who have sensitive skin. I couldn’t find products that were free of synthetics and preservatives for them to use. I’ve always been a big cook, and making natural personal-care products is very similar to cooking. I started reading and taking classes. I really enjoy the creativity of it; it’s crafty. I played around with formulations for a couple of years before I decided to turn it into a company.

What are some exciting new developments for My True Nature?

Our products feature “bath time friend” characters such as Ollie the Octopus and Daisy the Skunk, and we are working to expand the characters with a bath time book due out soon. A hooded towel and bath toys are also in the works, along with a bath time line for adults.

What (or who) inspires you when it comes to juggling a busy company and career with motherhood?

My kids.  They amaze me every day.  They inspire me to be a good wife, mother and CEO.  They help me with the company all the time and that makes me feel good.  They are learning all kinds of great life lessons through seeing the business.

 Favourite mom or baby product?

I love Kinesys sunscreen.  Works great and the spray on thing is terrific.  I also love Lunchbots reusable lunch boxes and bottles.  Great stuff!

The 2 biggest pieces of wisdom you would share with moms:

#1: Things that I have found most critical in my life day to day are first, to set an intention every day for how I want to be that day.  For instance, for me, I always want to be a mom first and a CEO second.  So every day I set the intention to put my kids first and my husband too.  This is more important I have found than one could know.  There are a million little decisions each day and to know that no matter what, my family comes first makes those decisions easier.

#2: I think is to try to take the long view.  Life is short, but it is also long.  I try not to get caught up in what seems to be the urgency around everything these days.  I try to focus on what I can accomplish and be satisfied with that.

Please fill in the blanks.

When they are older, I want my kid(s) to most remember me as completely devoted to them, to my husband and to my work.

When parents find out what I do, they often say: “I didn’t know you work.  How do you find time to do that?”

In my free time I love to practice yoga and cook.

I’m dreaming of  the day my life gets a little less complicated :)!

Thank you, Kelly!  Daisy, Ollie and Cleo are our favorite bath time friends!
