During the summer months, when the sun is at its strongest, don’t forget to cover baby up! A baby’s head is especially susceptible to the sun because their scalp is more exposed to the sun.

And like the Mom of this baby, be resourceful! If you forget baby’s hat at home, maybe they can borrow someone else’s hat!

Baby Boy Wearing Big Hat

  • Olivia L

Awww! I’ve draped receiving blankets over the stroller before when we didn’t have a proper hat. Doesn’t work as well when baby gets older though and wants to see what’s going on!

    Shade forts are great!

  • Angela Mitchell

If you can find a hat with the tightening toggle on it it can be a lifesaver. The hat stays on when it’s windy and it’s harder for them to pull it off. The ones I have for my babe also have the the longer piece of fabric in the back to cover their necks as well.

  • MultiTestingMom

    What a GREAT tip, Angela!

  • MultiTestingMom

    This is true 🙂

  • Tannis W

Cute picture! I can see how easy it would be to remember things like a hat for baby when you might not think its an ‘essential’ ( like food or diapers), so being resourceful would definitely come in handy!

  • Rene

This is great! My 4 month old daughter is fairly small for her age and the ‘infant’ summer hat that I have for her is always covering her face. I have been known to set up elaborate ‘shade forts’ with blankets and other items to keep her out of the sun!

My sons first hat was at the hospital, A blue one with a motorcycle 🙂

  • MultiTestingMom

Awwww…. Cute! Thank you for sharing! We love to hear anecdotes like that.

  • Carole Dube

That is a cute hat, lets not forget the sunglasses. They are as important as hat.

  • Stacey

Too cute! I can’t get my little man to keep a hat on of any shape or size

  • Heidi C.

I have produced four children with very large noggins on whom that hat would have been a perfect fit – LOL! Sun protection is so important at any age, including infancy so putting on a hat – any hat – is essential.

  • MultiTestingMom

Oh dear – sorry to hear about the large noggins 😉 You did it though, Mama! Be proud! Yes, you are right, it doesn’t matter how old you are, sun protection is VERY important!

  • Beth Gallinger

Great idea! Looks like this hat keeps the sun off his entire face.

  • charityk

my kids hat to wear hats even my infant.

  • Doreen Lamoureux

That is a beautiful picture. That hat is so adorable. 🙂

  • MultiTestingMom

It almost becomes a game to them, to take their hat off and have someone put it back on! Keep trying, they will understand one day just how important it is 🙂

  • Tanis

What a little cutie! As a new mom due in November, I will have to remember to bring a hat at all times where we live as it’s always nice and warm. Such an important way to keep the rays of the sun off baby!

  • MultiTestingMom

So cute – fun that you remember that! How old is your baby now?

  • MultiTestingMom

We thought it was pretty cute too, hence we shared it! 🙂 Yes, many Moms cover their strollers with light blankets. Great idea!

  • MultiTestingMom

Yes! We used to keep spare hats everywhere; the car, the stroller, etc. etc. but if in doubt, a big hat makes a great replacement as in this case 🙂

  • Brie T

My babies first hat was one we bought at the Vancouver Aquarium its neon green with some beluga whales on it! It,s so cute on her I can just picturee her playing in the sand down at the beach.

  • Shari G

I adore that pic!! How cute! I’ve done stuff like that when mine were small. Another thing I did in a pinch was to take a light blanket, and drape across the canopy to the tray. Lots of air flow through the sides, but the sun was off the baby and he could still see out 🙂

  • Laurie P

I can’t get my baby to keep a hat on, she doesn’t like it, EVER! But I keep trying….we even have a variety of hats.
